My MP3 Player freezes when I play music.?

I have a sansa sandisk e250 or e260, the screen gets bright until it goes all white and it becomes unresponsive if I try to play a song from the list or access the Music folder while it is plugged into my computer. I would like to back up my music at the least, but fixing it would not be bad either. What should I do?
