Has Adam Sandler ever been funny?

I have never found Sandler funny, he pays the same childish character in everything he does. And goes for the same lame jokes with his annoying voice. The Wedding Singer is a decent movie but everything else he he is in is unwatchable, even SNL. Why is he even famous?
